I got this stamp set with the eyes from PaperArtsy last year in a lucky dip box that they offered for their 10th birthday celebrations and knew I wanted to do something special with it. I love masquerade masks so decided these eyes were absolutely perfect for that.
I drew the mask shape in freehand on the back of an old cereal packet, making sure that it was big enough for the eyes and painted it with Bora Bora fresco paint. I then stamped and heat embossed the eyes in black and, although you can't really see it here, I also stamped a flourish all over the rest of the mask and heat embossed in clear. I then added the pearl detail around the eyes from sheets of pre-shaped sticky pearls that I cut to fit the shape I wanted instead. I then added the black ricrac and the feathers and the red rose was made from UTEE and embossing powder with a light coating of gilding wax.
The background is a 6x6 canvas which I painted again with Bora Bora and then added tinted modelling paste through a butterfly stencil (sorry, can't remember the make!). However, it was looking a bit flat colour-wise so I decided to go over the top with some Dusty Concord distress ink and a tiny touch of weathered wood distress on the edges and finished it off with some randomly placed gems.
I would like to enter this piece into the following challenges:
The Artistic Stamper - Use distress
Country View Cards - Painty Pleasures
Crafting Muskateers - Butterflies
