A canvas inspired by Alison Bomber for Paperartsy

This canvas has been inspired by this week's guest designer Alison Bomber over at Paperartsy. The original post is here. I decided I wanted to add a bit more colour so went for a turquoise wash of acrylic paint and then painted over with watered down Viva Decor Precious Metal paint in yellow orange which gives it a gorgeous shimmery finish (but made it an absolute nightmare to photograph!!). I originally had another image for the centre with the moths around but decided I didn't like it so just went for using the moths by themselves and highlighted the central one with a piece of Coredinations cardstock. They've all had a good dose of vintage photo and walnut stain distress inks to make the centres brighter than the edges. I don't have any buttons at the moment (they're all in boxes in England) so I used a cute leaf stencil to fill some of the background using vintage photo distress ink and inked lightly round the edge of the canvas too.

I'm really enjoying making my own backgrounds using stencils and distress inks and definitely think I'm getting more adventurous at trying out new techniques rather than just matting and layering with designer paper. I'm definitely getting very inky and painty although I'm very good at getting splodges on my work! I'm such a messy crafter!

I would like to enter this into the following challenges:
Paperartsy - inspired by Alison Bomber
Stampin for the Weekend - Anything Goes
Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Use rubber or clear stamps
Stamping Sensations - All creatures great and small

  1. Love the earthy natural colour palette, and the moths are gorgeous! The little leaves are great in the background, and all the shimmer is wonderful. Thanks so much for joining in the fun this week.
