Take one stamp

This week I have been making some Christmas cards using lots of different techniques but only using one main focal stamp for the challenge set by Darcy at Art and Sole. I don't have many Christmas stamps at the moment but I liked this cute deer from the Woodware 'Winter Wonderland' set and thought he would be very versatile for making lots of different cards.

Card 1:
For this card I stamped the deer, then masked him with a post-it note then took a distress ink pad and literally just placed the whole pad over the image. I think I saw this technique in a magazine, probably craft stamper, but I can't remember.

Card 2: I went for a black and white theme, colouring the stamped image with a black promarker. I made the background with a black micron pen and found a zentangle pattern that I liked and wasn't too complicated.

Card 3: I wanted to do some stamping on book pages but when I looked through an old book I found this perfect image so I thought I'd stamp the deer onto this instead. It reminds me of the Swiss mountains. I coloured the deer in burnt umber then added a good layer of crackle accents. Finally I distressed the image with old paper and walnut stain distress inks before matting and layering and distressing the edges with scissors.

Card 4: This card was a bit of a happy accident! I actually tried to create the image of the trees and deer with distress inks through the stencil but when I pulled the card away the image had not taken. So, I pulled up the stencil which was now covered in distress inks and put the card down again. Hey presto - a negative image! I didn't stop there though; I decided to get out the imagination craft sparkle paste and put that through the stencil instead and then stamped the deer on brown card and mount him on top of the background.

Card 5: This card was inspired by watching Barbara Gray on Create and Craft. I've had a couple of goes at brayering but it doesn't always go well. Her tips definitely helped! I started by stamping the deer and again masking with a post-it note. I then brayered the sky, starting with lemonade adirondack ink before adding a couple of blues (can're remember their names). I then created the hill mask from torn paper and added the blues with a sponge and finally added the trees which are from the same set as the deer. I really like the way the deer has a glow around him from the yellow. Oh, and of course stickles glitter.

Card 6: This card was inspired by Alison Bomber who is the guest designer over at Paperartsy this week. In her Monday challenge she created a tag using stencils, fresco paints and distress inks and that is what I have done here. First of all I used Bora bora fresco paint through this imagination craft stencil. (I tried to take a negative image from the stencil too but the paint dried too quickly!) then I added evergreen bough and peacock feathers distress inks randomly over the top. I did also splatter with water and blot but the splatters don't show up very well. I then paper pieced the dear with some pretty turquoise paper covered in snowflakes. I randomly daubed stickles all over although in the picture it looks rubbish (IMO!).

Card 7: For this card I decided to use a technique I saw Jo Firth-Young do somewhere (again, could've been craft stamper mag or could've been her blog) where she repeatedly stamped one stamp using second generation stamping. I used the same theme but instead of second stamping I used black ink for the deer I wanted to stand out, then stamped all the rest in grey. Finally, to add a bit of depth I went round the main reindeer with a pastel blue promarker and thought he needed a red nose :)

I will come back and add these to challenges later, this blog post has taken me hoooooouuuuuuuurs!!
